TRAVEL DIARY: TODDLER SPECIAL

TRAVELLING WITH A TODDLER

So guys its been forever we have had a conversation ( One sided that is :D)

So lets be honest, when Kamy and I are on a holiday alone, its an amazing time! We chill, barely carry stuff along, and literally never plan. But when it comes to travelling with the kids, its a totally different ballgame. Im not saying it isnt fun, family time is the best time ever!!! But it comes with its own challenges mainly because of the toddler.

Well being honest, Aarav is a pretty big boy, so we are good. He manages himself and it isnt such a task, being non-prepared with him. But the little one, here comes trouble! So i have formulated a cute little check list of stuff to carry when you are traveling with a toddler.

A  Stroller!

Well as much as i wanted to believe aaah he walks now, the stroller phase is over. I was WRONG! When i traveled to the USA last year without the stroller, it was the most difficult time ever! So now i come prepared, a stroller that can easily be folded and unfolded and needs to be lightweight. As a family of four, its very often we land up in different moods. More often than not, Iduboy ( aka Hridhaan) lands up going to sleep or getting tired at the oddest times. Therefore this truly means BUSINESS. Big or small, short or tall, a kid needs an accompying stroller!

Entertainment! ( Yep)

There we have it, Kids land up getting uneasy at the weirdest times, they have no clue what they need or want. I take in a tiny section of my bag dedicated to the stuff he really loves, like a Playdough set, Some cars and Airplanes which he sleeps with, a coloring book, a get-to-bed nighttime reading book and a pack of lego blocks. All I need is that he stays busy, and doesn’t loose his cool at any point. Its very difficult to manage a situation when a child has a quick tantrum roll, on an airplane, or even at a touristic spot.

IPAD ( Life saver)

When Nothing else works, all the toys become useless and when the world comes to an end, this is what we hand him. He is obsessed with Peppa Pig- so a bunch of episodes downloaded of Peppa Pig, really helps him calm down, or kill time when he is truly bored. Apart from this, there are some cool apps which work offline for kids, and other learning games that a child usually loves to play. I try to find out the latest things he is obsessed with, and I ensure I download them onto the iPad or my laptop before I travel.

Wet Wipes

You cannot imagine the situations I have been in, where I have prayed to the Universe to just hand me one single wet wipe. All because I forgot to pack them in the first place. And no, tissues are not the same thing! Wet Wipes are lifesavers. Apart from the messy , sticky situations, it also works as a cleanser for a air sick baby. And it also prevents germs all over his hands, keeping in mind that he keeps snacking on something every half an hour or so. Also I love to take a delicate sanitizer ( for the kids, I don’t prefer very strong ones, due to the smell and also the possibility of them sticking their fingers in their eyes)

Snacks

Hridhaan personally some kinds of cookies, crisps, a bit of bread and butter, fruits, crackers, cheese. Both the brothers love to snack, and not always is the airline food a delicacy. So this is definitely something that gives me satisfaction, that the kids keep snacking on some healthy, and a little bit of unhealthy too ( its a holiday!)

Baby Cream, Baby wash/ Powder

I am one of those mommies who loves her baby smelling good always. He isn’t a baby anymore though, sigh :(
I land up carrying at least one baby cream, small size, a babywash, as well as some baby powder, which I like to sprinkle onto him during the flight, to not only make him feel fresher. It also helps in bathroom accidents, and also ensures that you don’t use an airplane wash, on their delicate parts.

An extra set of clothes ( or two)

Well I have done it all. Orange juice falling all over him, vomiting, after having a full meal, chocolate smeared across his brand new tee. Well he is full of surprises. I prefer the surprise to a shock! As long as I have the wet wipes and two sets of tiny clothes in the baby travel bag, I am so relaxed, and It keeps me from fretting.

Blanket

He only sleeps in flights, when he is snug, so his blankie and his favorite soft toy, almost always are on flight with me.

All in all, traveling with a Toddler isnt easy, but if you plan well, it can definitely be more comfortable and in turn as a mommy you are happy!

Lots of love to all the mommies out there, enjoy your summer travels!

Love, Anki ( OntheGroove)
